A nice rainbow!

A nice rainbow!

Yes it’s that time again; TROUT TIME.  Time to start thinking about that early season opportunity to plug some BIG fish on our tailwaters or look forward to this summer on the Upper North Platte.

Fishing on Grey Reef and the Bighorn river is HOT right now with the rainbow spawn currently underway and the fish stacked in the deeper runs feeding heavily.  Water levels are low around 500 cfs. on both sections and weeds still a problem but fish are being taken with streamers and drys.

The Upper North Platte watershed currently has 80% of average snowfall accumulated and the same amount in water content keeping us much more enthusiastic about this season compared to the last.  Anything can happen in the next couple of months but the season is shaping up to be a good one evident by the way May and June are booking up.

Tight lines, Steve

It’s Time to Think Trout; preseason fishing.

It’s nice to be back, three months in Oregon just dripping in water and now back in Saratoga it is time again to start preparing for the ’13 season.  Ordering flies and supplies for the early tailwater fishing of the next couple of months and high water of the Upper North Platte and stoneflies and streamers.  Boat and equipment maintenance seems to never end, only to find your just starting again.

Trying to finish restoration on Bambi II, our 17′ Airstream Trailer parked specifically for our basecamp in the Cody area for me and guests fishing the Clarks Fork or Shoshone rivers.

It looks so far the Platte may see average flows this season.  Still early.
