Here we are again, high chocolate water currently with the promise of fish to be caught once the water begins to clear. Memorial weekend on the Platte was more playtime with kayaks and rafts rather than throwing streamers from the D-Boat; great fun anyway.
Last week I fished the tailwaters of the Reef and the Big Horn with a favorite client of mine from Iowa. We had a fantastic time catching numerous fish and more than a few over 20″. I will continue to fish the clear outflows of tailwaters until we reach peak flow here on the Platte and water begins to clear. We should see peak within the next 7 to 10 days and we’re looking for signs of salmon flies in the upper canyon. As soon as that occurs the 6 mile put-in will be the place to be. I’ll see you there. Tight lines, Steve
